Dream Studio

Create from the place before language.

A private creative laboratory for entering dreams, liminal states and the deeper imagination as sources of original ideas, direction and possibility.

Is Dream Studio for You? ↓

We imagined before we wrote.

Long before written language, human beings made meaning through image and symbol. They marked cave walls with animals, signs, hybrid beings and forms whose meanings we may never fully recover.

We cannot know which arose from observation, ritual, memory, dream or vision. What remains is the ancient human impulse to give visible form to what could not yet be explained in words.

Dream Studio continues that lineage. It begins with the understanding that an image can carry intelligence before the conscious mind knows what it means, and that creation often begins by following what appears.

The edge of sleep has always been a studio.

Artists, writers and inventors have long turned toward the borderlands of consciousness for inspiration.

Salvador Dalí deliberately hovered at the edge of sleep with a key held between his fingers. Thomas Edison used a similar practice to capture ideas as waking consciousness began to loosen. They understood that the space between wakefulness and sleep was not empty. It was generative.

That threshold is known as hypnagogia, the liminal state in which images, sensations, memories and unexpected associations begin to emerge before sleep fully takes hold.

Dream Studio invites you to enter that space consciously and create from what you find there.

An inexhaustible source of creative material

Dream Studio is built upon the premise that creativity is not a finite resource you must force from the conscious mind.

Dreams, reverie and liminal states open access to an inexhaustible source of imagery, association, pattern and possibility. They move beyond habitual thinking and reveal combinations the rational mind may never have considered.

You may arrive with a dream, an unfinished idea, a creative block or a project searching for its next direction. You may also arrive with nothing more than the sense that something wants to emerge.

Enter the imaginal

Through dream incubation, guided hypnagogic exploration, active imagination, dream reentry and embodied imagery, we invite material to arise without demanding that it arrive fully formed.

An image may become a story. A sensation may reveal the atmosphere of a new body of work. A strange phrase may become a title, concept or creative direction. A dream landscape may become a visual language or world waiting to be built.

The unfamiliar is not dismissed. It becomes material.

From image to form

Dream Studio does not end with inspiration.

Together, we notice what carries energy, follow the strongest creative threads and translate what emerges into something you can develop. Depending on your work, this may become writing, visual art, performance, strategy, design, a new offering or the beginning of an idea that did not exist before.

The purpose is not to manufacture creativity. It is to develop a conscious relationship with the source from which your creativity already arises.

I have always created through possibility.

When I was fourteen, I worked in a 13,000 square foot textile store and taught myself how to sew. I was surrounded by colour, texture, pattern, fashion students and people arriving with ideas for things that did not yet exist.

Sewing challenged me because it required a kind of linear thinking that did not come naturally. What captivated me was the fabric itself and the possibilities held within it. I made clothing, home décor and pieces I still have today, but what stayed with me most was the experience of standing among all that raw material and imagining what it could become.

That way of seeing has followed me throughout my life. It appeared in writing, retail merchandising, creative strategy and my constant instinct to imagine how something could be approached differently. Later, as an art auctioneer, I presented and sold works including Salvador Dalí woodcuts and Picasso lithographs. I remained especially drawn to the surreal worlds of Dalí and Joan Miró, where ordinary logic gives way to image, symbol and unexpected association.

Ideas have rarely been scarce for me because daydreaming has always been part of how I think. I understand the nonlinear creative mind, the abundance of possibility and the challenge of giving form to what arrives faster than it can be made.

Dream Studio grows from that lifelong relationship with the imaginal. It is where I help you enter your own source of imagery and possibility, recognize what carries creative energy and bring something through that did not exist before.
